Ashis Nandy
Ashis Nandy is a political psychologist, social theorist, and critic. His research interests center on the political psychology of violence, cultures of knowledge, utopias and visions, human potentialities, and futures. He has published widely, including The Intimate Enemy: Loss and Recovery of Self under Colonialism (1983, 2009) and The Savage Freud and Other Essays on Possible and Retrievable Selves (1995). He served as the director of the Delhi-based Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) between 1992 and 1997 and continues to remain associated with the Centre. Nandy is a Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Postcolonial Studies, Melbourne, and a member of the Global Scientific Committee for Higher Education (UNESCO). He received the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 2007 and was chosen as one of the 100 top public intellectuals in the world in 2008. He received the Hans Killian Award in 2019.
