Ari Sitas
Ari Sitas is a poet, dramatist, activist, and scholar. Sitas studied sociology and political philosophy at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and was one of the founding members of the celebrated Junction Avenue Theatre Company. He taught for many years at the University of Natal, Durban, and at the University of Cape Town. In 2010 he was tasked by the South Africa minister of higher education to develop, together with Sarah Mosoetsa, a Charter for the Future of the Humanities and the Social Sciences (2011). Recently, he has directed the Re-Centring AfroAsia Project of the University of Cape Town, which explores the movement of material and symbolic goods (from ideas to music) between 700 CE and 1500 CE.
